The Split process creates one file for each document component described in the DriveFile. These files reside in a subdirectory in the WORKDIR or working directory. The subdirectory is named document-pid where pid is the process identification number of the Split process.
For example, if your document is named beginguide.xml and the pid for the Split process was 123, a subdirectory is created under the working directory named beginguide-123.
Note: However, on Windows systems, the 8-character DOS naming convention is used—for example, beging~1.123. Fragment.n files become Contenta objects during the Import process. Slice.n files contain the XML or SGML data. The data is stored in the newly created Contenta objects for use after a tool has exported and reassembled it into a document. You can open these files in an editor to view their contents. The files contain the elements specified in the map file and/or data with the original XML/SGML markup.
