Defining the Preferred Tool
The preferred tool in the List View is the default tool in the tools (Actions) list. The preferred tools are defined in AppData at the Global or user level. Contenta Web checks the user AppData for a preferred tool first and if one doesn’t exist, it checks the Global AppData. The preferred tool is displayed as a link in the CW list view.
The sysadmin user can configure the preferred tool to be any delivered (standard) or any custom tool. To check the existing or delivered preferred tool list, and/or to modify the list, access AppData from the Contenta Explorer application.
To add or modify the list, as the sysadmin user in Contenta Explorer, click:
Tools > Options > Tool Preferences > path in AppData
path in AppData
- Global > content@web > ObjectViewPrefTools
- Used if Object Display View Preferred Tool is not defined for user.
- user > content@web> ObjectViewPrefTools
- Used if defined; if Global is also defined it is ignored—if not defined, Global Object Display View Preferred Tool is used.
Figure 1. Example: Preferred Tool List in AppData
For new databases, the newdb command automatically defines the preferred list in AppData under:
Global > content@web > ObjectViewPrefTools
For upgrades, the upgrade program adds the list of object names in AppData but does not add the preferred tool.
The preferred tool is listed by object type. Custom object types must be added to AppData and a preferred tool defined.
