Summary of Key Changes in Contenta Web 5.0

This section summarizes the key changes in Contenta Web 5.0 for upgrade customers who have made customizations to Contenta Web.

  • If the Contenta Web UI has been customized, the following changes should be noted:
    • Contenta Web is built on a new UX theme (the Carbon theme) which provides a common look and feel (via icons, color schemes, and fonts) across all SDL products.
    • Contenta Web now uses Ajax, jQuery, and new tree and list controls in the repository (library) view to provide an enhanced user experience.
    • Contenta Web uses HTML buttons throughout the interface instead of images.
    • The library view has been renamed to the repository view and provides access to everything on the user’s desktop similar to Content Explorer.
    • The list view control being used in CW provides enhanced functionality such as sorting, reordering columns, hiding/showing columns, and multi-select.
    • In Contenta Web 5.0 the documentation is available in PDF format. A new documentation launch page is available from the Help menu in both Contenta Explorer and Contenta Web and provides links to all of the documentation online. The launch page can be customized.
    • There are extensive new, modified, and obsolete Contenta Web files (css, images, jsp). See below for more information.
  • If Custom Web tools have been developed, the following should be noted:
    • Branding/Carbon theme changes may be inherited depending on how the look and feel in the custom tools was implemented (i.e if tools were developed using CWStyle.css).
    • In addition, when multiple objects are selected in the list view in Contenta Web, additional idpaths are being sent to the tool.
  • If Contenta Web is being used in a Contenta S1000D environment, the following new configuration option are available (note, these features and how to configure them are described in more detail in the SDL Contenta S1000D Users Guide):
    • Customizing metadata fields that are available in list view.
    • Customizing the display name in the tree view by object type.
    • Customizing the default sort order in the tree view and list view.
