Alignment Validation

MultiTrans can automatically identify documents that may be poorly aligned within your existing TextBases. If, for example, a pair of documents is too different in size, it is unlikely these documents are actually equivalents (hence, unlikely that they will be well aligned).

Procedure

  1. Open the TextBase you wish to validate. If you have more than one TextBase open, select the appropriate TextBase from the TextBases tab of the TextBase Search window.
  2. From the TextBase Search menu, select Validate Alignments....
  3. A window opens allowing you to select one or both or the following checkboxes:
    1. Segment Count Criterion: select this option to identify documents where the difference in number of segments between the source and target documents is significant, signifying a likelihood that the documents are not equivalents.
    2. Document pair contains *.PRN documents: select this option to identify documents where at least one document was originally an Excel 2003 or earlier document, from a TextBase built in an early version of MultiTrans. There were a number of potential conversion issues in that situation, so these documents may be worth validating.
  4. Once you have selected the desired options, click OK.
Your TextBase is scanned and the Alignment Validator Report window opens with a list of potentially problematic document pairs, with messages such as Documents differ too much in size.
  5. Click Save Report to save this report for later reuse.
  6. Click Close to close the report.
