Migrating Promotions

A migration tool is available so that you can migrate Promotions to SmartTarget 2014. The tool checks that Promotions contain valid Publications, Triggers, Page Regions and Content before migration.

Before you begin

Before you run the migration tool:
  • Configure Publication Targets to point to your Fredhopper systems
  • Run the configuration_upgrade.jar file to upgrade your smarttarget_conf.xml file and make sure to add your <Region> names manually.

About this task

The migration tool does not migrate the following features:
FeatureDescription
Custom settingsThe migration tool cannot migrate custom Promotion settings.
LabelsLabels assigned to Promotions are removed during migration.
Fredhopper TriggersPromotions that use the following Fredhopper-specific Triggers are not exposed in the Promotions Dialog and are not migrated:
  • Item ID
  • User location
  • Dominant attribute trigger
  • Dominant category
ContentThe migration tool cannot resolve content selected using:
  • user location
  • a Static location based on Facet
  • a Dynamic Source based on a behavioral attribute
Filters based on Facet valueThe migration tool cannot migrate Promotions that use filters whose value is defined using Nth value in Facet (for example 1st value in Facet, 2nd value in Facet and so on).

The migration tool is not aware of these values and so cannot migrate them, nor warn users of their removal.

  11. When you have finished migrating Promotions, click Finalize Migration. After finalizing the migration:
    • You can query Fredhopper using SmartTarget and also migrate Promotions, although Promotion migrated subsequently are treated as new Promotions in SmartTarget and will get a higher priority (ranking information is lost).
    • Promotions that were not migrated will be marked as non-SmartTarget and will not show up in SmartTarget queries.
