Translation memory settings dialog box > Performance and tuning

Use the Performance and Tuning page of the Translation Memory Settings dialog box to improve the performance of server-based translation memory searches (on the selected translation memory) with the available tools.

To display the Translation Memory Settings dialog box, select the translation memory in the Translation Memories view, right-click and select Settings. Select Performance and Tuning from the Translation Memory Settings dialog box navigation tree to display the Performance and Tuning settings.

Fuzzy Index Statistics

Fuzzy index statistics are used during fuzzy searching. They can improve the speed of the search, particularly in larger translation memories (a translation memory containing less than 50,000 translation units is considered to be small). You should update the fuzzy statistics after performing a large data import.

You will get a notice in this section to recompute the fuzzy statistics when SDL Trados Studio detects that a translation memory containing more than 50,000 translation units has grown with more than 10% in size. If that happens, or if you notice that searches are becoming slow, update the fuzzy statistics.

  • Statistics last updated on - the date the statistics were last updated.
  • Translation units added since - the number of translation units added since the last update.
  • Recompute Fuzzy Index Statistics - click this to update the fuzzy statistics.

Fuzzy Index

You should re-index the translation memory when you update the Recognize settings (for example, the Recognize dates or Recognize numbers options) used in the translation memory. If you do not update the fuzzy index, the new 'recognize' items will not be indexed.

Advanced Tuning

This option enables you to improve the speed of translation memory searches. However, the speed is achieved at the expense of accuracy.

Dragging the slider to the right improves the speed at which results are retrieved, but it does this by excluding translation units that would ordinarily have been included in the results. The further you drag the slider to the right, the more translation units are excluded.

Translation units are excluded on the basis of their match percentage. As you drag the slider to the right, the fuzzy match threshold for the search is raised and the lowest matching translation units are excluded from the results. The further you drag the slider to the right, the higher the threshold becomes.
