Adding files to existing projects

You can add files to an existing project in the Files view. You can add them individually, or you can add a folder structure. If your files are not used for translation purposes, but you want to manage them together with the translatable files, you can then change their usage. If you added the files to a SDL Trados GroupShare project, you must also upload them to the Trados GroupShare Project Server by checking them in.

Procedure

  1. Go to the Projects view and double-click the project for which you want to add files.
  2. In the Files view:
    • Select Add Files to add files individually.
    • Select Add Folder to add a folder of files or a folder hierarchy.
  3. If your files are not going to be translated in SDL Trados Studio, you can change the files usage to Reference or Localizable. Select the file, right-click it, and then, on the context menu, select Change File Usage, make the change, and select OK.
  4. If you are working with Translatable files, prepare the new files for translation; otherwise move on to the next step. Select the files, right-click them, and then, on the context menu, select Batch Tasks > Prepare:
    1. On the Batch Tasks page, in the Batch Processing wizard, check the Tasks box where you can see the processes that the Prepare task will perform on the selected files. The new files will have the same settings used to create the original project files.
    2. If necessary, you can view or change the project settings before processing the files. Select Next and make any changes on the Settings page.
    3. Select Finish to prepare the files for translation. Bilingual *.sdlxliff files are created and added to all target language folders. They are also displayed in the Files view when you select a target language from the navigation pane.
  5. Optionally, if you are working with a SDL Trados GroupShare project, the files need to be uploaded to Project Server, so that other team members can access the files. Select the source language version of the files, right-click them, and then select Check In. The files are uploaded to the Project Server and can now be accessed by other team members. If you uploaded new Translatable source files, the *.sdlxliff files that were created for every target language in the project are also automatically uploaded.
