Configuring Compound Component Templates
About this task
To configure a Compound Component Template:
Procedure
- Open a browser and access the Content Manager Explorer Web site for the Content Manager that contains the Compound Component Template you want to configure. You may be prompted to log in now.
- In the tree on the left, navigate to the Publication and to the Folder that contains this Compound Component Template.
- Open the Compound Component Template by double-clicking it, or by right-clicking it and selecting Open from the context menu.
- Make the following configurations as needed on the General tab:
- Name
- this is the name you gave to this item in Template Builder. You can change it if you wish.
- Output Format
- select the language of the fragment that this Compound Component Template produces. HTML Fragment is a typical value, but if your rendered Component contains script code, select one of the other values.
- Priority
- when a content author creates a hyperlink to a Component that occurs on the Web site multiple times, the Priority of the Component Template with which that Component combines determines its likelihood of being the target of a hyperlink. Refer to Component link resolving logic for more information about this topic.
- Component Presentations based on this Component Template will be:

set this value to specify the behavior of Component Presentations that use this Component Template:
- Select Published embedded on a Page if you have a static Web site or if the Component Presentations you create using this Component Template will only appear on one Web page on your Web site.
- Select Published as a dynamic Component if you have a dynamic Web site and if the Component Presentations you create using this Component Template are likely to appear on multiple Web pages on your Web site.
- Parameters Schema
- Leave this option set to (none).
- Metadata Schema
- if you want to specify metadata for this Component Template, select a Metadata Schema that specifies which metadata fields you can fill in. If you select a Metadata Schema, the metadata fields appear under this option. You must fill in the mandatory fields before you can save the Component Template.
- Leave the Source tab unchanged.
- Configure the Linked Schemas tab as follows:
In this tab, specify the Schema or Schemas of Components that this Compound Component Template can render. Your Compound Template probably contains references to data and metadata fields that only exist in one or some of your Schemas.
- Leave the Tracked Categories tab unchanged. Compound Templates do not currently have the ability to activate tracking.
- The Workflow and Info tabs are read-only and so do not need configuration.
- Click Save and Close to update the Compound Component Template.
