Custom import package

You can use the Import and Export service to import structured data from other systems than SDL Tridion into a Content Manager. To do so, the data must conform to SDL Tridion standards, and must be contained in an import package that also conforms to SDL Tridion standards.

Here are some examples of situations that might prompt you to create your own import package to import into Content Manager:
  • Your business may have a taxonomy structure that you would like to use in SDL Tridion.
  • You may have structured data in your back-end systems that you would like to make available to SDL Tridion users.
  • You may have legacy content that you would like to add to your existing SDL Tridion content.

In all of these cases, you can use the Import and Export service to create an import package, add your content into it, and then import it.

The Import and Export service does expect that the package it imports contains well-formed, valid SDL Tridion content items. That is, you will need to transform your external content to SDL Tridion format before adding it to the package.
