Changing user properties

You can modify user permissions, group assignments, language and other properties from the Content Manager web client application.

Procedure

  1. Login to the Web Client as an administrator.
  2. Click on the Settings tab.
  3. Click Users in the left pane.
  4. Select the user from the list in the right pane.
  5. Click Properties in the right pane.
    The User Properties window displays.
  6. Change the properties as needed. The mandatory fields are:
    1. Name. The user login name. When using Internal authentication, this is the name you enter into the username field of the Content Manager login screen. The domain/username combination is case sensitive, it must match the case of the domain/username as it was entered in the Windows Authentication System.
    2. Password. If Type is Internal, then enter the password for this user. If Type is External, then leave the field empty.
    3. Language. Used as the default language value (for example, when creating a new object).
    4. User group. Use the ellipsis button to display the list of user groups. Select the group(s) to which the user is assigned. This determines the permissions and access the user has to folders and data in the repository.
    5. Type. Select the field to display the selection list. Internal if the user name and password is to be verified by Content Manager. External if the user name and password is to be verified by an External system.
    6. External Id. Required if you are using a central authentication. Enter the external authentication system identification. For example, for Windows authentication enter domain\username.
  7. Optionally:
    • To deactivate a user, uncheck the Active box. This allows the user value to be maintained in the repository but eliminates the name from user lists. For instance, when a user leaves the company but is associated with metadata for an object, such as Last modified by, the username (data) in the field is maintained and valid however, the user no longer appears in any lists.
    • Check the Disabled box to prevent the user from logging into Content Manager. For instance, if the user leaves the company.
