Configuring which binaries are displayed in Preview

By default, as a performance optimization, while in Preview mode, users only see binary files of the GIF, JPG/JPEG, PNG, CSS, or JS (JavaScript) types. To change this behavior, either set a maximum file size below which users should see all binary files, or change the file types that are always displayed, regardless of file size. You must be an administrator-level user to perform this task.

Procedure

  1. On an editable webpage, start editing by clicking the pencil button in the top right corner.
  2. Select the slide-out navigation at top left, select Settings, and in the screen that appears, select Inline editing. Then click on Session Preview Settings in the list that appears.

A Session Preview panel slides into view on the right.

  3. Check the settings under Maximum size for binary items for preview. By default, the settings are as follows:
    • Maximum size is set to 0 KB, meaning that in Preview mode, no binary items are displayed at all, except those of the types selected in the list below.
    • The list of file types has the items Gif image, Jpeg image, Png image, Cascading style sheets and Java script selected, meaning that those types of file, regardless of their size, are always displayed.
  4. Set the Maximum size to the largest binary item of any file type that you want to appear to end users in Preview mode. All binary items smaller than this number will always be displayed.
  5. Use the list of file types below Maximum size to indicate how to handle binary items larger than the maximum size:
    • If you select a file type, the user always sees a binary item of that type, regardless of the maximum size you specified. To always show all binary items, regardless of size, select all item types.
    • If you leave a file type unselected, users only see a binary item of that type if its size is not larger than the maximum size you specified.
  6. Click Apply Changes to apply your settings.
