Configuring Segments as triggers
Segments are put into the Ambient Data Framework by the Audience Manager cartridge. When you have Audience Manager installed and configured, including the Audience Manager cartridge, segments are automatically added to the trigger-types.xml file so that you can use Segments as triggers for promotions
A Segment defines Contact preferences, interests and characteristics that represent a target audience of known Contacts accessing content on your Web sites.
The Audience Manager cartridge puts Segments (and Contact details and Contact extended details) into the Claim Store of the Ambient Data Framework. Audience Manager uses Synchronization Targets to synchronize data (Contacts and Segments) between the Content Manager Server and the presentation server. Fredhopper receives its list of available Segments from the presentation server; when the Segments available on the Content Manager are synchronized with presentation server, the list of available triggers (as defined in the trigger-types.xml configuration file) is updated.
