Importing TMs from TMX files

By default, WorldServer exports TMs in the .tmx format. You can import .tmx files created in WorldServer, in SDL Trados Studio, or in other third-party applications.

About this task

You can re-import a third-party .tmx file multiple times without generating an entirely new set of TM entries. If a newer version of the .tmx file has been created with additional or modified entries, only the new or modified entries are imported into the translation memory.

When you import a .tmx file, WorldServer assigns its entries an Import Job ID that can be used as a filter for deleting or exporting entries. To reduce the processing times required to import .tmx files, WorldServer drops the shingles table indexes when it starts importing a .tmx file and re-creates them when the import is complete. Any leverage activity against that TM will be slower during the import.

Procedure

  1. In WorldServer, go to Tools > Translation Memories.
  2. Select the translation memory to which you want to import entries.
  3. On the Translation Memory: <name> page, select Import TM from TMX File.
  4. In the Import TMX Entries into TM Database <name> (Step 1 of 2) dialog box, next to TMX File, select Browse, and then find and select the .tmx file that you want to import.
  5. Select Next.
  6. In the Import TMX Entries into TM Database <name> (Step 2 of 2) dialog box, do the following:
    1. Under Languages to associate with TMX codes, select the languages that you want to associate with the TMX codes.
    2. Under Language combinations to be skipped, select the check boxes corresponding to the language combinations that you want to skip.
    3. Optional: Select the Perform import in the background check box if you want WorldServer to perform the import in the background.
  7. Select Import.
  8. In the Import TMX Entries into TM Database <name> dialog box, select OK.
  9. Refresh the Translation Memory: <name> page.
