Managing tasks
As part of working with tasks in a project, you can change their attributes, their assignees, their due dates, and their priority. You can also move them to another existing project or include them in a new project.
- Viewing information about tasks
The information that you can view about tasks consists of details about the project to which the task belongs, of the history of that specific task, with each event logged separately, and of a visual representation of the workflow in which the task is involved. - Configuring table columns
By configuring table columns, you can choose the information that you want to be displayed in the tables on the Projects and Tasks pages. You can also rearrange the columns as you want. - Exporting tasks as translation kits
If you want to work on one or more tasks offline, in a tool such as SDL Trados Studio, you can export those tasks from WorldServer in the form of a translation kit. - Creating translation kits for SDL Trados Studio
In WorldServer, you can create translation kits adapted specifically for SDL Trados Studio. - Claiming tasks
When a workflow step is assigned to multiple users or to a workflow role that consists of multiple users, its corresponding tasks appear in the task list of each assignee. If you want to start working on one of those tasks, you need to claim it to prevent other users from making changes to the asset you are working on. You also need to claim tasks if you want to export them into translation kits, and then import them back into WorldServer. - Importing offline work
If you or another member of your team worked on a task offline, in a program such as SDL Trados Studio, you can import the work back into WorldServer as a return package. Keep in mind that you can only import tasks that are currently claimed by you. - Completing task steps
When you have finished with a task assignment, complete the task in the task list. Completing a task forwards the task to the next step in the workflow. If the tasks in a project are all in the same step, you can complete them simultaneously. - Unclaiming tasks
If you have finished working on a task that you claimed, you need to unclaim it to allow other users to work on it or to export it. - Changing task assignees
As a project manager, you can change the workflow roles or the users to whom task steps are assigned, so that the appropriate users can start working on tasks as soon as they reach the appropriate steps. In general, only the users who belong both to the locale of the task and to the workgroup of the project type are displayed. - Changing task attributes
Each task in the system has various attributes. Usually, your WorldServer administrator configures them by going to Management > Administration > Customization. You can change the attributes of any active task. - Changing task priorities
When a user creates a project, the tasks in the projects receive a priority by default. You can change the priority of a task to make sure that the Workflow Engine Queue processes it ahead of others. However, if a task is already running, you cannot change its priority; you can only change the priority of tasks that are in the queue, waiting to run. - Changing the due date or the expected duration of tasks and task steps
When you change the due date of a task, you can choose to notify the assignees about this change. By doing so, you can make sure that they prioritize their work properly and deliver it on time. - Moving tasks
You can either move tasks to another existing project or include them in a new project. To move tasks to an existing project, that project needs to have the same locale as the tasks you want to move. - Changing the status of a step
By changing the status of a step, you can track the progress of each task step. You can only change the statuses of steps belonging to active tasks. - Viewing and updating task issues
When viewing or updating a task issue, you can view information about who created it, the project and task the issue was created for, as well as its history—how its status and severity have changed since it was created. - Submitting new issues for tasks
If you found an issue that is related to a task, submit it, so that another user can pick it up and resolve it. - Canceling tasks
If you cancel a task, you cancel it from the project and users can no longer work on it. - Uploading and updating assets
You can upload and update source assets both on the WorldServer 11 interface and on the Classic interface. However, the steps that you need to perform to achieve the same result are different in each case.
