Searching for TD entries

You can search term databases not only to find terms in the source and target entries, but also to use the returned result set as a basis for exporting, deleting, or validating entries.

Procedure

  1. In WorldServer, go to Tools > Term Databases.
  2. Select the term database in which you want to search for entries.
  3. On the Term Database: <name> page, select the Search tab, and then do the following:
    1. In the Maximum # of Hits box, enter the maximum number of results that you want to see for your search.
If the value that you enter is too low, the search might not return enough results. If the search does not return an entry that you expect to find, increase the maximum number of search results and repeat the search.
    2. Next to Search Type, select the type of search that you want to perform.
You can choose between the following search types:
      • Standard: Finds all the entries in the term database that contain the exact search text (ignoring white spaces). It supports searches for words, partial words, numbers, and non-alphanumeric characters. If you limit the number of search results, it might not return all the possible results from the term database. Wildcard search (*) works only in Standard mode.
      • Segment leverage: Searches for matching terms by using shingles (or word runs). If you are searching for fox in socks on Knox on box, potential results include fox in socks, socks on Knox, and socks on Knox on box. This search type only supports searching for entire words. To find matches with this search type, you need to provide enough context (usually, three words). For example, searching for a single word only finds matches in short segments, but does not find all the possible matches, because there is not enough word context.
      • Freeform SQL: Enables you to author complex SQL-based queries against the term database. It supports the use of wildcard searches and complex groupings. To use Freeform SQL search, select Advanced, and then select the Freeform SQL check box. You can then add fields and enter conditions for your query.
    3. Next to Search Options, choose whether you want the search results to match the exact words or the case.
    4. In the Status list, select the status that an entry needs to have to be displayed as a result of your search.
    5. In the Search For box, enter the text that you want to search for.
  4. Select Search The icon corresponding to the Search button. or select Enter.
