Searching for TM entries

You can search translation memories not only to find text in the source and target entries, but also to use the returned result set as a basis for exporting or deleting entries.

Procedure

  1. In WorldServer, go to Tools > Translation Memories.
  2. Select the translation memory in which you want to search for entries.
  3. On the Translation Memory: <name> page, select the Search tab, and then do the following:
    1. In the Maximum # of Hits box, enter the maximum number of results that you want to see for your search.
If the value that you enter is too low, the search might not return enough results. If the search does not return an entry that you expect to find, increase the maximum number of search results and repeat the search.
    2. In the Search Type list, select the type of search that you want to perform.
You can choose between the following search types:
      • Standard: Finds all the matches in the translation memory that contain the exact search text (ignoring white spaces). It supports searches for words, partial words, numbers, and non-alphanumeric characters. If you limit the number of search results, it might not return all the possible results from the translation memory. Wildcard search (*) works only in Standard mode.
      • Segment Leverage: Searches for matching terms by using shingles (or word runs). If you are searching for fox in socks on Knox on box, potential results include fox in socks, socks on Knox, and socks on Knox on box. This search type only supports searching for entire words. To find matches with this search type, you need to provide enough context (usually, three words). For example, searching for a single word only finds matches in short segments, but does not find all the possible matches, because there is not enough word context.
      • Concordance: Searches your translation memory to find TM entries that contain the words or phrases of your choice.
    3. In the Search In list, select whether you want to search in the source language or in the target language.
    4. In the Search For box, enter the text that you want to search for.
    5. Optional: If you want to search for duplicate TM entries, select the Duplicates link, configure the duplicate attributes that you want to include in your search, select OK, and then select the Duplicates check box.
    6. In the Minimum Score % box, enter the minimum score that a match needs to have to be displayed as a result of your search.
    7. In the Source Language and Target Language lists, select the source and target languages of your search.
    8. In the Status list, select the status that an entry needs to have to be displayed as a result of your search.
  4. Select Search The icon corresponding to the Search button. or select Enter.
