WorldServer for translators and reviewers
As a linguist, your interactions with WorldServer are usually centered around tasks and projects. Use this section as a resource for any information that you might need about translating or reviewing tasks or about working with online tools such as SDL Online Editor.
Tip: The information in this section applies to users with standard translation and review permissions. If the information you are looking for is not in this section, try looking for it in the section for project managers. By default project managers have all the permissions of translators and reviewers, along with additional permissions for features such as reporting or creating projects.
- About projects, project groups, and tasks
A few definitions and images that might help you understand the difference between projects, project groups, and tasks. - Searching for projects
You can find projects more quickly by applying one or more search criteria. You can then save your configured criteria as search filters and reuse them whenever you need. - Configuring table columns
By configuring table columns, you can choose the information that you want to be displayed in the tables on the Projects and Tasks pages. You can also rearrange the columns as you want. - Viewing information about projects
When you view information about a project or about a project group, you can track the progress of the translation and find out details such as the client who requested the translation or the scoping mode that was used to estimate the cost of the translation. - Viewing information about tasks
The information that you can view about tasks consists of details about the project to which the task belongs, of the history of that specific task, with each event logged separately, and of a visual representation of the workflow in which the task is involved. - Claiming tasks
When a workflow step is assigned to multiple users or to a workflow role that consists of multiple users, its corresponding tasks appear in the task list of each assignee. If you want to start working on one of those tasks, you need to claim it to prevent other users from making changes to the asset you are working on. You also need to claim tasks if you want to export them into translation kits, and then import them back into WorldServer. - Exporting tasks as translation kits
If you want to work on one or more tasks offline, in a tool such as SDL Trados Studio, you can export those tasks from WorldServer in the form of a translation kit. - Creating translation kits for SDL Trados Studio
In WorldServer, you can create translation kits adapted specifically for SDL Trados Studio. - Translating and reviewing in Browser Workbench
Browser Workbench is an online tool in which you can translate and review assets without leaving WorldServer. It presents content as a series of source and target language segment pairs. - Translating and reviewing in SDL Online Editor
SDL Online Editor is an online tool that you can use to translate and review assets online. SDL Online Editor is a scalable, cost-effective component that combines the core capabilities of a modern desktop translation tool with a friendly interface designed to boost productivity and to ensure a positive user experience. - Importing offline work
If you or another member of your team worked on a task offline, in a program such as SDL Trados Studio, you can import the work back into WorldServer as a return package. Keep in mind that you can only import tasks that are currently claimed by you. - Unclaiming tasks
If you have finished working on a task that you claimed, you need to unclaim it to allow other users to work on it or to export it. - Completing task steps
When you have finished with a task assignment, complete the task in the task list. Completing a task forwards the task to the next step in the workflow. If the tasks in a project are all in the same step, you can complete them simultaneously. - Changing the status of a step
By changing the status of a step, you can track the progress of each task step. You can only change the statuses of steps belonging to active tasks. - Viewing and updating task issues
When viewing or updating a task issue, you can view information about who created it, the project and task the issue was created for, as well as its history—how its status and severity have changed since it was created. - Submitting new issues for tasks
If you found an issue that is related to a task, submit it, so that another user can pick it up and resolve it. - Quality models for the review process
Use quality models to specify different error categories and severities that will be used when reviewing translations. - Viewing announcements
Announcements are a way in which administrators can inform users of various events such as company-related news, upgrades, or potential downtime. - Configuring personal preferences
Your can configure a specific set of personal preferences for your account, which includes settings related to email notifications, the user interface, or translation memory matches. You can also change your password from your personal preferences. - Forgotten password recovery
In WorldServer, you can recover your password in one of the following ways, depending on the settings configured by your administrator: either by resetting your current password yourself or by asking your administrator to change your password through an email message.
