Translating a single SDL Edit (ITD) file

This topic describes how to translate a single *.idt file without explicitly setting up a project.

About this task

Procedure

  1. Go to File > Open > Translate Single Document. A project is automatically created for the file, and the file is open for translation.
  2. Select Project Settings and change the following settings as required:
    • Source and target languages
    • AutoSuggest dictionaries
    • Translation memories
    • Usage of automated translation
    • Termbases
  3. Translate the file.
  4. (Optional) Use the commands on the Review tab, in the Quality Assurance group to verify the file.
  5. Select File > Save Target As to save the file in the required format.

Required app to enable ITD support

To work with ITD files in Trados Studio 2021, first install the RWS Trados Compatibility and Migration Power Pack from the RWS AppStore.

This free app adds the infrastructure required to work with the following legacy files in Trados Studio 2021 and later:
  • SDL Edit Documents (.ITD)
  • TRADOStag Documents (.TTX)
  • Translation Memory Exchange Documents (.TMX, .TMX.GZ)
  • S-tagger
  • Bilingual Workbench
  • .TMW
  • .MDB
