Translating SDL Edit (ITD) file in a project

Translating SDL Edit (ITD) files in a project allows you to use the project preparation options, such as converting the files to *.sdlxliff format and analyzing the files prior to translation.

About this task

Procedure

  1. Go to File > Options, and then select File types > SDL Edit to display the default file type settings for SDL Edit files. Change the settings as required.
  2. Select File > New > Project to create a project. Follow the prompts to set project options.
  3. Use the Project Settings dialog to change the following settings as required:
    • Source and target languages
    • AutoSuggest dictionaries
    • Translation memories
    • Usage, or not, of automated translation
    • Termbases
  4. Select Project > Create Project Package to create a project package.
    1. Add the files to be translated.
    2. Specify additional package options.
  5. Send the package for translation. Translators and reviewers receive the files within a project environment, which includes the necessary supporting data such as file type settings, translation memories (TMs) and so on.
  6. Send the package for review. The reviewers receive the files within the project environment. Repeat the translation-review cycle until the translations pass review.
  7. For each file, select File > Save Target As to save the file in the desired format, usually ITD or the file original format.
