Using cloud-based terminology

Trados Terminology is a cloud terminology provider that increases terminology consistency and quality across translations as terms are regularly updated and validated and translators can always access the latest terminology. Integrate Trados Terminology with Trados Studio to extends terminology results provided in the Termbase window while translating.

With Trados Terminology you can:

  • add to and share termbases from your cloud account
  • collaborate on termbases across your workflow without setting up a terminology server
  • use Trados Terminology as any other termbase provider (in your project translation workflow)
  • access a shared online pool of terms, so termbases can be accessed in the cloud or via desktop

Scenarios for using cloud-based terminology in Trados Studio

Scenario 1: Trados Studio users receive a local project package for translation:

  1. Access Trados Studio.
  2. Open the package to access its resources.
  3. Connect to your cloud account if you are not already logged in. Trados Studio wiIl display all the termbases you have access to for that cloud account.
  4. Go to the Projects view, select Project Settings, and then on the Project Settings page, go to Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Termbases.
  5. Select Use > Cloud-based Terminology.
  6. On the Cloud-based Terminology Settings page, select the checkboxes corresponding to the termbases you want to use in your project from the My termbases list.

Scenario 2: You receive a link to the shared termbase in Trados Terminology .

  1. Access the shared termbase from the link.
  2. Log in with your cloud account when prompted.
  3. Open Trados Studio and make sure you are connected to your cloud account.
  4. Do one of the following:
    • For existing projects, go to the Projects view, select Project Settings, and then on the Project Settings page, go to Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Termbases.
    • For all future projects, go to File > Options > Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Termbases.
  5. Select Use > Cloud-based Terminology.
  6. On the Cloud-based Terminology page, select the checkboxes corresponding to the termbases you want to use in your project from the Shared with me list. If the link was created with permission to manage the termbase, the Update option is automatically enabled.
