Collecting Content to Export to a DDN

Dispatcher objects let you gather the content that you want to export to a DDN. Once you have created a Dispatcher, you add content (DMs, PMs, SCPMs, and graphics) by reusing them into the Dispatcher.

About this task

Contenta S1000D can streamline the process of creating a DDN package that includes not only the objects in the Dispatcher but also objects referenced by those in the Dispatcher. You can export mixed-spec data (that is, S1000D pre-4.0, 4.0 and higher data in the same DDN), but the DDN XML file itself will be the specific version that you select: 5.0, 4.2, 4.1, 4.0, 3.0, 2.3, 2.2, 2.1, 2.0, 1.9, 1.8.1, 1.8, or 1.7.

You have the flexibility to export objects directly by reusing DMs, PMs, SCPMs, and graphics into a Dispatcher, and you can optionally export objects referenced by the objects in the Dispatcher. If you choose to include referenced objects, DDN Export will locate those objects for you in the CSDB and add them to the DDN package accordingly.

Procedure

  1. In Contenta S1000D, navigate to the desired Configuration object, then select the Dispatch folder.
  2. In Contenta Web, click Tools, New Object, Dispatcher.
  3. In Contenta Explorer, click File > New Object > Dispatcher.
  4. In the New Dispatcher window, type a name.
  5. Click OK.
  6. To populate the Dispatcher object, depending on the Contenta application being used, do one of the following:
    • In Contenta Explorer you can drag DMs, PMs, SCPMs, graphics, or container objects onto the dispatcher object.
    • In Contenta Web, select DMs, PMs, SCPMs, graphics, or container objects, right click, and use Reuse and Paste to assign objects to the Dispatcher.
