Creating DM templates

Contenta S1000D templates are used when you create DMs from codes that you have uploaded.

About this task

There are templates for each DM type delivered in the Contenta S1000D database. See Uploading a CSV File to Create S1000D Codes for a list of codes that are used when a new DM is created in S1000D. The data in these codes is used to populate the related tags in the new object.

You can create templates for each Model Identification Code or program by customizing the templates delivered in the S1000D version-specific Templates container. Add data into the template that is not supplied in the Data Module Code or in the Information Code or Technical Name. For example, you can add references to the BREX data module and/or to the ACT data module but do not add information to the codes that comprise the SNS.

If the template contains data that is supplied in the Data Module Code, or from the Technical Name or Information Name, it is overwritten when the object is created with the data in the Data Module Code, and/or from the Technical Name or Information Name in the Manage DMRL interface.

If you have a new installation of Contenta S1000D, the samples in the root Template folder support the latest schema. When you upgrade, the templates are not overwritten, a new templates folder for the release is created.

Procedure

  1. In Contenta S1000D, navigate to the desired Configuration, then select the Templates folder.
  2. In Contenta Web, click Tools > New Object > Model.
  3. In Contenta Explorer, click File > New Object > Model.
  4. In the Name text box, type the Model Identification Code of the DMs for which you are creating these templates.
  5. Click OK.
  6. To use the Contenta S1000D delivered templates as a basis for your templates, do the following:
    1. Right-click on the desired template, then click Copy.
    2. Right-click the model you just created, then click Paste.
    3. In the Name text box, name the template with the data module type for which you want this DM to be a template.
      For example, proced.
    4. Click OK.
    5. Edit the template to contain the desired information.
Ensure that the template indicates the correct version of the S1000D schema you are using.
  7. To create your own template, do the following:
    1. Copy an existing template that most closely resembles the template you want to create.
    2. In the Name text box, type the data module type to which this template corresponds (for example, proced, crew, fault, and so on).
    3. Click OK.
    4. Edit the template to contain the desired information.
