Publishing S1000D content

From Contenta S1000D, you can publish S1000D content to PDFs, IETPs, or the file system.

Contenta S1000D Publish supports the following outputs:

IETP ViewerPDF Publishing EngineFile System
LiveContent S1000D or LiveContent S1000D Mobile for iPad or Android tablet. XPPExports referenced modules and graphics from the CSDB to the file system, resolves references, and applies applicability as needed.
Third-party IETP viewer

(via Contenta S1000D publish to the file system)

Third-party PDF publishing engine

(via Contenta S1000D publish to the file system)

For a list of graphic/multimedia formats currently supported by LiveContent S1000D (for IETPs) and XPP (for PDFs), see Contenta S1000D and LiveContent S1000D Cross-product graphics and multimedia support.

Contenta S1000D includes a publish configuration file with properties that may be configured as needed. Two of these properties, LiveContent_GraphicFormats and XPP_GraphicFormats, list graphic formats; however, these properties usually do not need to be modified because the delivered file contains the supported graphic types.

Contenta S1000D also enables you to publish with applicability. To do this, ensure that the Publication Module that you publish includes a reference to an Applicability Cross-Reference Table Reference Data Module. You specify such a Data Module in one of the following ways:
  • In a pre-Issue 4.0 Publication Module, use an actref tag.
  • In an Issue 4.0 or later Publication Module, use an applicCrossRefTableRef tag.

When you publish, the referenced applicability DMs (ACT, PCT, CCT) are exported along with other referenced DMs such as BREX DMs, CIR DMs (in Issue 4.1 and later), and cross-referenced DMs.

Issue 4.1 and later only:
  • S1000D Publish checks to determine if an ACT Catalog DM is in use by searching the CSDB for a DM with infoCode 0A3 and the same modelIdentcode and S1000D Issue as the ACT DM referenced by the PM being published. If found, the ACT Catalog DM will be exported along with other modules and graphics in the publication.
  • When an ACT Catalog DM is in use and the user sets applicability for Publish, S1000D Publish processes productDefinitionRelationship information in the ACT Catalog DMs and extracts additional productAttribute/condition information from referenced ACT/CCT DMs before displaying the ACT/CCT tables in the Publication Module Applicability window. When the user applies applicability, additional productAttribute IDs and CCT condition IDs, along with additional related PCTapplicPropertyIdent IDs, will be recognized and applied during filtering (for example, both SerialNo and brakeSerialNo).

Contenta S1000D also enables you to resolve CIR references in Issues 4.1 and later. By default, the S1000D Publish tool resolves each type of CIR reference in a particular context, such as the Preliminary Requirements section of Procedural, Process, Fault, or Checklist DMs. Refer to the CIR reference resolve default behavior topic in this section for detailed information.
