Specifying applicability filtering in S1000D LiveContent Preview

When displaying a data module using S1000D LiveContent Preview, you can specify applicability filtering criteria to show how the filtered content would be rendered in the IETM.

Before you begin

This procedure assumes that you have opened S1000D LiveContent Preview for an S1000D Issue 3.0 or later data module.

Procedure

  1. Under Current Applicability Shown, click the plus sign (+) to display the applicability settings.
In multi-language CSDBs, LiveContent Preview looks for referenced ACT/PCT/CCT DMs as follows: first, in the same language as the <dmRef> or refdm tag's optional language markup, then in the same language as the referencing module.
  2. Change the applicability settings by selecting the setting you want to change and then modifying the settings that appear in S1000D LiveContent Preview.
Click this radio buttonTo filter based on
    ProductInformation in the PCT
ConditionTechnical, operational, or environmental conditions defined in the CCT
ReferenceApplicability settings defined in the <referencedApplicGroup> section of the data module
If you are previewing an Issue 4.1 or higher DM, note that the LiveContent Preview tool displays optional Issue 4.1 or higher applicability markup for primary product identifiers, prompts, and enumeration labels. When present, this markup is displayed when you select the setting you want to change. Specifically, the applicability UI displays the following:
    • Primary product identifiers: In Issue 4.1 or higher ACT DMs, the LiveContent Preview tool looks for the optional productIdentifier attribute in each <productAttribute> tag in the ACT DM. If found and set to primary, when an author selects applicability by Product in LiveContent Preview, only these <product> id values are used to populate the Product Identifier pick list; that is, only products that contain a primary product identifier as the <assign> tag's applicPropertyIdent attribute value in the PCT DM are displayed. Otherwise, the product id attribute values are used to populate this pick list; in this case, there is no way to know which product attributes are primary.
    • Prompts: In Issue 4.1 or higher ACT/CCT DMs, LiveContent Preview looks for the optional <prompt> tag in each <productAttribute> tag in the ACT DM and in each <cond> tag in the CCT DM. If found, when an author selects applicability by either Product or Condition in LiveContent Preview, the <prompt> tag contents are displayed in the left-hand columns of the Product Attributes and Technical Conditions tables. Otherwise, the product attribute and condition <name> tag contents are displayed.
    • Enumeration labels: In Issue 4.1 or higher ACT/CCT DMs, LiveContent Preview looks for the optional enumerationLabel attribute in each <enumeration> tag in both ACT and CCT DMs. If found:
      • When an author selects applicability by either Product or Condition in LiveContent Preview, the enumerationLabel attribute values are displayed in the right-hand column pick lists in the Product Attributes table.
      • When an author selects applicability by Condition, the enumerationLabel attribute values are displayed in the right-hand column pick lists in the Technical Conditions table.
      • When there are no enumerationLabel attributes, or when an enumerationLabel has been incorrectly added to a list or range of applicPropertyValues such as Mk1|Mk9 or 1~3, the applicPropertyValues themselves are displayed.
      • Note: When applicability by Product is selected, the right-hand column pick lists in the Technical Conditions table are derived from the PCT DM, not from the CCT DM.
  3. Specify values for each applicability setting either by selecting from the drop-down list or by entering values directly into the text box.
  4. Click Set Applicability to update S1000D LiveContent Preview to show any changed applicability settings.

Results

S1000D LiveContent Preview shows only the content that matches the applicability settings that you applied, and indicates "filtered out" content using a gray message box. You can experiment with different conditions.
