Uploading content into a project

This task describes how to upload content directly into a project or ContentRoutingProject in the Contenta S1000D CSDB.

Before you begin

Before running S1000D Upload Content tool for the first time, see Using the S1000D Upload Content tool. To understand how the upload tool works when you upload into a project or ContentRoutingProject, refer to the Upload to Project Overview.

Procedure

  1. In Contenta S1000D, navigate to the desired project or ContentRoutingProject object.
  2. Click Tools > S1000D Upload Content.
  3. When the S1000D Upload Content window opens, make the appropriate selections for the following options.
    OptionDescription
Source LocationThis option is set to Local Upload by default to upload files from your client machine. Click Server Upload to upload files from a server machine instead.
3.0 Files without Lang.-Country CodesIf your CSDB is a single-language database, Not applicable is selected, which cannot be changed.

If your CSDB is a mulit-language database, Skip these files is selected by default. If you want Upload Content to instead assign the source language-country code to Issue 3.0 files that do not already contain a language-country code, click Assign source language (LL-CC), where LL-CC is your CSDB's source language-country code, such as EN-US.

Schema ValidationThis option is set to None - well-formed check only by default, which validates only that the content specified for upload consists of well-formed XML. Select one of the following to additionally validate the content against the applicable S1000D schema.
    • Upload invalid files uploads well-formed files even if they fail validation against the S1000D schema.
    • Skip invalid files does not upload files if they fail validation against the S1000D schema.

The S1000D Upload Content tool attempts to access s1000d.org to locate the schema against which to validate the content. If it is unable to access that web site, it uses values specified in the S1000D_Catalog.prop file to determine the location of the schema against which to validate content.

Overwrite ObjectsThis option is set to Skip existing objects by default. Click Overwrite existing objects to have Upload Content overwrite existing objects where possible, depending on your permissions.
Unlock ObjectsThis option is set to Skip locked objects by default. Click Unlock objects to have Upload Content unlock locked objects where possible, depending on the type of lock and your permissions.
  4. Do one of the following.
    • If you selected Local Upload as the Source Location in step 3, drag the files to be uploaded from your file system onto the box or use the Browse button to navigate to and select the files.
    • If you selected Server Upload, type the server directory containing the files to be uploaded in the text box that appears.
  5. Click Submit to start the upload and watch its progress, or click Submit & Close to start the upload without watching its progress.
  6. Optionally, you can also click Prior Uploads at any time to view information about prior uploads.
For more info about prior uploads, refer to the Viewing prior upload information from the S1000D Upload Content window topic.
  7. If you clicked Submit in step 5, you can click Cancel at any time to cancel the upload. If you do so, the system displays a message asking you to confirm that you want to cancel the upload and displays the following warning.

Cancellation may take some time on the Web Server if importing is in progress.

Click OK to cancel the upload or Cancel to continue the upload.

  8. If you clicked Submit in step 5 and did not subsequently cancel the upload, you can click New Upload to perform another upload to the same configuration.
  9. Optionally, click Close to close the window while allowing the upload to continue.
