Contenta S1000D support for legacy S1000D Issues

Contenta S1000D supports legacy S1000D Issues 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 1.8.1, 1.9, 2.0, and 2.1.

SDL delivers flat schemas for Issues 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 1.8.1, and 1.9, and modular/master schemas (from www.s1000d.org web site) for Issues 2.0 and 2.1, as well as a Catalog file for each supported legacy issue. Support for Issue 1.6 and 1.7 DMs includes support for both the Aircraft Ground Equipment (AGE) and Air Vehicle, Engines, and Equipment (AVEE) schemas, which were merged in subsequent issues.

Issue 1.6 AGE schemas are available for descript and proced DM types. Issue 1.7 AGE schemas are available for descript, proced, and schedul DM types. The schema names corresponding to these AGE DM types, which are stored in Contenta S1000D Document Type property sheet fields, are descript_age, proced_age, and schedul_age, respectively.

The following table shows how AGE-specific DM codes are mapped to Contenta S1000D CSDB property fields.

The following table describes how Contenta S1000D tools support legacy S1000D Issues.
Contenta S1000D ToolDescription
S1000D Upload ContentThe S1000D Upload Content tool supports legacy S1000D Issues 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 1.8.1, 1.9, 2.0, and 2.1. For Issues 1.6 and 1.7, AGE DMs are supported, and the tool extracts AGE DM codes into property fields.

Issue 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 1.8.1, and 1.9 SGML files are converted into XML before being uploaded to the CSDB.

DMs and PMs are supported for Issues 2.0 and 2.1. DMs are also supported for Issues 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 1.8.1, and 1.9.

Arbortext, Arbortext Check InArbortext Editor and Arbortext Check extract AGE DM codes into property fields.
Insert Reference (Arbortext Editor plugin)The Arbortext Editor Insert Reference plugin allows you to edit Issue 1.6 or later Data Modules, and Issue 2.0 or later Publication Modules, and to insert references from these modules to DMs and PMs of any valid S1000D issue. The plugin inserts a reference to the selected DM or PM with the correct markup for the S1000D issue of the module being edited.
Rebuild Table of References (Arbortext Editor plugin)This Arbortext Editor plugin generates Issue 1.6 and 1.7 AGE/AVEE DM markup as well as Issue 1.8, 1.8.1, 1.9, 2.0, 2.1, and 2.2 AVEE DM markup when needed.
Validate (Arbortext Editor plugin)This Arbortext Editor plugin additionally searches for AGE DM markup.
S1000D LiveContent PreviewThis tool recognizes AGE DMs and displays their DMC names correctly.
S1000D Clip ReferenceThis tool generates AGE DM markup when needed, and adds dmtitle markup when available.
S1000D PublishS1000D Publish to XPP/PDF supports AGE DMs in publications. XPP XSL and CSS style files recognize AGE DM markup.
S1000D DDN ExportThis tool allows you to create DDNs for S1000D issues 1.7, 1.8, 1.8.1, 1.9, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3. The tool will create valid DDN XML files for each of these issues.

In addition, you can create SGML DDN packages for Issues 1.7, 1.8, 1.8.1, and 1.9. To enable this functionality, there is a Create SGML DDN Package (Version 1.x only) option in the DDN Export user interface. Selecting Yes for this option causes the tool to convert DMs and the generated DDN XML file into SGML format before adding them to a 1.7, 1.8, 1.8.1, or 1.9 DDN export package .zip file.

Legacy S1000D Issue Support Caveats and Limitations

Contenta S1000D legacy issue support provides basic end-to-end functionality, from upload to publish, as described above. This support does not include:
  • SDL Foundation Suite, S1000D Upload Codes, S1000D Define and Manage tools, Data Module templates
    • These tools and functions are needed only for new S1000D programs, not existing ones. In particular, note that it is not possible to upload CSV files containing AGE DM codes, which include several codes that are different from AVEE DM codes. Also note that, in the Define and Manage tools, it is not currently possible to avoid displaying Model, SDC, and SNS codes that are associated only with legacy issues, since codes are stored independently of S1000D Issues.
  • Sample data: Sample S1000D data (SAMPLEBIKE data); sample XPP styles/jobs/PDFs; sample Arbortext styles
    • Use sample S1000D data from www.s1000d.org downloads instead. Use the existing XPP CSS styles as a starting point. Use existing Issue 2.3 Arbortext styles as a starting point.
  • Applicability support
    • Contenta S1000D continues to support applicability only in Issues 3.0 and later.
  • PM Builder
    • Contenta S1000D continues to support building and updating PMs via PM Builder only in Issues 3.0 and later; Arbortext or other editors may be used instead, as needed.
  • Reusable components
    • Contenta S1000D continues to support reusable warnings, cautions, support equipment, supplies, and spares only in Issues 2.3 and later.
  • Publishing baselines or incremental updates from Contenta S1000D to LiveContent S1000D is not supported for legacy S1000D Issues, as LiveContent S1000D does not support AGE DMs.
