FAQ, Known Issues, and beta features

A few items to be aware of when using the Language Weaver add-in.

  1. Beta feature: Maintain formatting
    • The Language Weaver add-in is equipped with an optional feature that enables formatting to be maintained in the translation workflow. This feature is toggled OFF by default due to some potential instability (particularly in the web app). To use this feature, navigate to the Preferences panel and toggle the beta maintain formatting feature ON. If the feature is toggled ON in one environment, it will not affect the other environment.
    • Note: The maintain formatting feature is more stable in the desktop app.
  2. "Undo" limitations when "Auto-translate" is ON
    • Issue: When the auto-translate feature is toggled ON and the "Replace selection" or "Paste below selection" display option is also toggled ON, selecting "Undo" (CTRL+Z) more than once will produce an undesired result.

Specifically, when applied more than once, the "Undo" function will select the text and re-trigger the translation. In case the "Replace selection" is ON, this will lead to the selected text not reverting back to its original state.

In case "Paste below selection" is ON, this will lead to the translation being appended to the current selection, and hitting "Undo" multiple times, will continue to duplicate the translation of the selected text.

    • Workaround: If the user finds themselves in an "Undo" loop, the suggested workaround is to change the text translation or display preferences to either temporarily turn OFF the Auto-translate feature or turn ON the Text translation preview.
  3. Table translation not supported
    • Issue: Table translation is not supported because the table formatting cannot be maintained in all cases, and in some cases this may even result in the app crashing.
    • Workaround: If table translation is required, the suggested workaround is to use the document translation feature.
  4. Dark mode with a dark background produces unwanted font color changes.
    • Issue: When using dark mode in Word with a dark background, the translated text can be displayed in a font color with poor contrast.
    • Workaround: To avoid this issue, it is recommended to use a white background in Word, regardless of whether the app is in light or dark mode.
  5. Image content not translated
    • Issue: Some images containing text are not translated.
    • Workaround: If image content is not being translated, the suggested workaround is to use the document translation feature.
  6. Some images may disappear from translated output
    • Issue: Some images - more commonly embedded images from other Office apps like Excel - do not appear in the translated output.
    • Workaround: If images are not appearing in the translated output, the recommended workaround is to use the document translation feature.
