Dictionary management
A dictionary is a list of terms with their corresponding translations that can be used in Language Weaver Edge to define how specific terms are translated.
When a dictionary is used, Language Weaver Edge will verify if any of the source terms in the dictionary are included in the content being translated. If any of such terms is found, the exact translation from the dictionary will be used. If fluent terminology is used, then the translation will be inflected according to the context needs.
Dictionary usage
- Dictionaries can be used only when the source language is manually selected. The feature is not available when using Auto-detect for the source language.
- Dictionaries are specific to each language pair.
- Dictionaries can be imported and exported as external files.
- You can select multiple dictionaries for one translation. The priority of the dictionaries is determined by the order in which they are selected. This is relevant for those terms that may be included in more than one dictionary. The first found translation of a term will be used, without considering any translations that may be available in the other selected dictionaries.
- While dictionaries are a very effective way to manage how certain terms are translated, they are not a substitute for adaptation. Terms that are not found in a dictionary are translated directly by the language pair model being used, without considering similar terms that may be included in the dictionary. If you need a language pair to be updated with the terms from a dictionary, you may want to consider using adapted or auto adaptive language pairs.
