Upgrading the Language Weaver Edge application
To benefit from the latest MT (Machine Translation) developments, you can upgrade to a higher version of Language Weaver Edge. Upgrade to 8.X from 7.X or 5.X is not supported, but upgrade from version 8.X to a newer 8.X is.
Before you begin
Check the TCP port values.
About this task
When upgrading to a major or minor version of Language Weaver Edge, a new license file will be required. A single license file will be required and will be installed on the Controller host. You can provide the existing myhosts.json file of the controller host to RWS support in order to receive a new Language Weaver Edge License file. The new license file will contain the Language Pairs and the number of Processing Units allowed (consult Dynamic Licensing and Processing Units for more details).
Procedure
- Make sure to perform a backup of Language Weaver Edge before proceeding with the upgrade.
- Stop the Language Weaver Edge service on all hosts to prevent access to the Language Weaver Edge infrastructure during the upgrade.
- Upgrade Language Weaver Edge on each host, starting with the Controller host, by running the installer.
- If GPUs are used, you must upgrade the NVIDIA drivers.
- Once all hosts are upgraded, log in to the Language Weaver Edge WebUI as administrator.
- Go to .
- Select the Hosts tab, to consult the previous configuration of Job Engines and Translation Engines.
- Select the Entitlements tab.
- If you are upgrading from a previous 8.x minor release, a new license is required:
Select Upload License File and select the newly generated License file. The number of available Processing Units is displayed.
- If you are upgrading from 8.0 or 8.1, select Edit and assign the appropriate Processing Units to each of the Translation Engines (1 PU is a minimum for the Translation Engine to start) and select Save.
- If you are upgrading from a previous 8.x minor release, a new license is required:
- Select the Hosts tab to check that all Translation Engines are started.
- When upgrading to Language Weaver Edge 8.6, all Translation Engines will use the default hardware optimization mode, based on detected hardware on the host (see Configuring optimization mode for Translation Engines). If you want to use a specific hardware optimization mode, you will need to delete and re-create the corresponding translation engines.
