LiveContent S1000D Publishing Server

The LiveContent S1000D Publishing Server provides the capability to generate and distribute Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETPs), which users can view and interact with in LiveContent S1000D.

Highly configurable and interactive, LiveContent S1000D supports up to Level 2 / Class 5 IETPs through integration with diagnostic systems, reasoning engines, and other applications. Because content is stored in an XML database, users can see filtered views based on applicability, and can be guided to needed information as they interact with manuals at runtime.

Typically, the Publishing Server provides multiple information consumers with output capability through LiveContent S1000D. Once the server is configured, production of new and updated technical manuals can be highly automated.

Because published IETPs are distributed without the Publishing Server, their content cannot be edited, giving the publishing organization greater control of fielded content. Users and administrators can annotate the distributed manuals with notes and bookmarks.

Sample published IETPs are delivered with LiveContent S1000D.

File permissions required for LiveContent S1000D Publishing Server functionality

  • To generate a publication, the user must have sufficient read-write permissions to create and modify files in the publications directory (by default, LiveContentData/collections) and its subfolders.
  • To build a collection of publications for distribution, the user must have sufficient read-write permissions in the collections (by default, LiveContentData/collections) and its subfolders.
  • To create a CD image, the user must have sufficient read-write permissions in the directory where it will be created.
  • For Publishing Server runtime support, read-write permissions are required in the logs folder where the application is installed.

The publications and collections directory paths are defined in the LiveContent S1000D publication configuration file.
