Backing up server-based termbases

You may want to back up your server termbase as a security measure in case your termbase gets currupted, or if you want to save and send the contents of your server termbase to a translator/terminologist to create a new termbase from your backup.

About this task

You can back up a server termbase by exporting the termbase structure and the termbase data to two separate files. You can then use these files to re-create a server termbase in MultiTerm.

Procedure

  1. In MultiTerm, access the Administrator view (if not already logged in):
    1. Add a server connection to MultiTerm. Go to File > Setup > Add.
    2. Select Administrator in the Navigation area.
    3. Select Log in from the Ribbon and fill in the credentials for the MultiTerm server.
  2. Save the structure of your server-based termbase:
    1. Expand the Server tree, then select the termbase.
    2. Select Definition under the selected termbase tree.
    3. Select Save from the Ribbon.
    4. Enter a name for your termbase definition and click Save to save it to your computer as an *.xdt file.
  3. Save the termbase data:
    1. Expand your termbase and select Public Objects > Export.
    2. Select Default export definition in the details pane to highlight the option.
    3. Select Process from the Ribbon.
    4. In the Export Wizard, select Save As and enter a name for the .XML file where you want to export the termbase data.
    5. Select Save.
    6. Select Nexton the Export Settings page of the Export Wizard.
    7. Select Next on the Processing the Export page when MultiTerm Administrator finishes exporting the termbase data.
  4. Select Finish to close the Export Wizard.
