Multi-user setups

MultiTerm is a scalable solution which can be used in single or multi-user setups. In a multi-user setup, termbases are stored centrally on a central database server in the network environment.

It is based on a client/server model, and is deployed on LAN and WAN infrastructures with optional web access. It uses a third-party data host to store termbases.

A typical multi-user environment is made up of:

  • A data host

This is a server computer with a database server installation. All termbases are stored on the database server and referenced in the MultiTerm master database, MTMaster. You specify the location of the database server during installation of MultiTerm Server, and you cannot change this location without re-configuring MultiTerm Server.

  • MultiTerm Server host

MultiTerm Server is the middleware that is responsible for communication between MultiTerm clients and the database server. MultiTerm Server and the database server can be installed on the same or on separate computers. MultiTerm Server determines the capacity of the MultiTerm system.

  • Client computers

Client components are installed locally. Client users log in to MultiTerm Server to access termbases that are stored on the database server. MultiTerm is the main terminology management interface and users of this tool can work concurrently with local Jet termbases and server-based termbases.

Server-based termbase access rights are granted by the administrator in MultiTerm Administrator which is delivered as part of the Trados GroupShare 1.1+ server.
