Recreating termbases

If you have backed up your termbase, you can always recreate it, if ever needed.

Procedure

  1. Go to File > New > Create Termbase.
  2. Select a location and enter a name for your termbase.
  3. Select Next and then select Load an existing termbase definition file.
  4. Select the termbase definition file with the *.xdt extension which you saved as a backup and open it. The path will be displayed in the Import Wizard.
  5. Select Next and enter a name for your termbase. If required, you can also add a description and copyright notice.
  6. Carry on until you have completed all the steps in the Import Wizard.
  7. Open the Termbase Management view and navigate to your termbase.
  8. Underneath the name of the termbase, select Import.
  9. Select Default import definition from the list, in the right-hand window.
  10. Select Home > Process.
  11. In the Import Wizard, browse to the *.xml file that you already created and import this into your termbase. Select the required import settings and then proceed to the next page.
    • Select Fast import (import file is fully compliant with MultiTerm XML) if you do not want validation checks to be performed on the entries in the import file.
    • Select Perform full reorganization after import if you are experiencing problems with new/changed data. You may be getting unwanted duplicates or the fuzzy search may not be working correctly. Choosing this option rebuilds the languages from scratch directly in the import.
  12. In the Validation Settings, select Save As and browse to the location of your choice.
  13. Enter a name for the exclusion file and save. The exclusion file is an *.mtf.xml file that can be imported into a termbase. It contains termbase entries that are excluded from an import because they failed a validation check. You can also choose from the following options:
    • Allow incomplete entries to import entries even if they do not hold data for all mandatory fields.
    • Allow over-complete entries to import entries that have more fields than the termbase entries. The additional data will not be added to the existing termbase.
    • Ignore sublanguages to ignore these when importing entries.

If you do not select this option, terms are added to the correct sub-language. However, if the input file contains sub-languages but the termbase does not, these will not be created as part of the import.

All entries are imported to the relevant super-language.

If the import file does not contain sub-languages but the termbase does, all entries are imported to the first sub-language in the termbase.

If both the import file and termbase contain sub-languages, all entries from the import file are imported to the first sub-language in the termbase, whether or not the sub-languages match.

  14. Proceed to the Import Definition Summary. Once you have completed all steps, the import will start and your termbase will be recreated.
