Adding a map to a publication
Add maps to a publication to reference all the content (topics) to be included in the publication.
About this task
A map defines the logical order and the hierarchical relations of the topics it contains. In context of a publication, maps organize the topics into parts, chapters and sections. As such, the XML map may be compared to a table of contents (TOC).
Each publication must have at least one map, a root map, which is located at the top of the publication's content hierarchy. This root map contains all the other maps and topics. You cannot have more than one root map in the publication. However, you can have a map that references other maps in the publication.
Procedure
- In Publication Manager, open a publication.
- Do one of the following:
Method Steps Add a root map - In the publication tree, right-click on the publication and select Add map.
- In the Browse Repository window, locate and select the map you want to add.
- Click Add.
In the Content tab, the map appears under the publication name. If the publication had an existing map, it prompts if you want to replace it.
Add a child map - In the publication tree, do one of the following:
- To insert a map under an object in the hierarchy, right-click on that object (topic or map) and select .
- To insert a map before an object in the hierarchy, right-click on that object (topic or map) and select Insert beforeTopic ref.
- In the first window that appears, click Browse...
- In the next window, locate and select the map you want to add.
- Click Insert, and then OK.
Drag and drop multiple maps from the Browse Repository window - Select .
- Locate and select the maps you want to add.
- Drag the maps from the Browse Repository window into position in the publication hierarchy.
Results
The contents of the map appear in the publication tree. By default the latest version of the map is selected. If needed, you can click on the map and select a version from the top right pane to use in the publication.
