Updating object properties

The properties are the metadata stored in the repository with an object. It is information about the object, typically defined when you create an object, and can be modified or updated after object creation.

When properties can be updated

  • You must have permission to edit and store objects in the Content Manager repository.
  • To modify objects, you must first check them out of the repository.
  • You cannot modify objects with a status of Released. To update a released object, you must to create a new version or new branch.

Where properties can be updated

In Publication Manager, you can update object properties anywhere that you can view a list of objects, including the Baseline, the Browse Repository window, the Inbox, or search results.

Updating objects in batch

You can update properties in batch, that is for several objects simultaneously, only if the objects are of the same type. The system checks if all objects are of the same object type. If not, you must reselect objects of the same type to proceed.

Note also the following:
  • When you make a batch metadata change, you cannot undo it.
  • New metadata overwrites existing metadata. For example, if you change language, the new language overwrites the languages that are currently defined. That is, the new language is not appended as an additional language, it overwrites the current language definitions.
  • When changing the assigned users: If the selected objects belong to different user groups, the users that can be assigned may be different from object-to-object. Filter the list of users that can be applied to all selected objects.
  • When changing status: You see the list with all possible status transitions for the selected objects. The status is always be enabled, if an error occurs, the object appears in the error list at the bottom of the application
