Archiving
Archive your Web content for historical, business, regulatory and legal reasons.
A Web site is one of the primary means by which a company communicates with the outside world. It represents the public face of the organization and is frequently used both as a marketing channel and to support business transactions.
While the content creation and life cycle part of a Web site resource is controlled— typically handled by a content management system—there is often little or no control over the Web communication life cycle. While SDL Tridion already manages the content life cycle, the Archive Manager preserves the Web communication life cycle by retaining the entire communication history (it captures all changes made to the Web site). Archiving is important for the following reasons:
- Historical
- Preservation for future use and reference
- Business
- To enable audits for quality control and for Q&A reviews (for example, to assess the impact of communication on business)
- Regulatory
- Information disclosure rules require the preservation of Web content beyond its direct use. For example, acts concerning accessibility, freedom of information, and data protection and privacy.
- Legal
- Web site evidence is often used in copyright infringement disputes, trademark disputes, and dilution or defamation claims.
