Including URLs

Inclusion rules allow you to define additional URLs to be archived when certain parts of the site, or certain resources, are published. You need to define inclusion rules for each Web site Publication you are archiving by adding <InclusionRule> elements as child elements a <Publication>.

Include specific URLs for archiving based on certain conditions being met — defining inclusion rules allow you finer-grained control over the archiving process to define what resources are archived and when. For example, you may need to define inclusion rules in the following situations:
  • for resources not managed by the Content Manager
  • for hardcoded links (linked Content Manager items are resolved)
  • for Pages driven by query Stings (Dynamic Component Presentations)
  • for resolving a facet of your site not handled by links.

You can define the following types of inclusion rules:

Global inclusions
Use Global inclusions for archiving URLs whenever a publish activity occurs. For example: for archiving files applied throughout your Web site, such as a CSS file or JS file, that are not managed by Content Manager.
URI inclusions
Use URI inclusions for archiving a URL when a specific Content Manager item is deployed (when a specific URI, or URIs, is published). For example:
  • when the Home Page is published, you may want to archive the flash animation not managed by Content Manager.
  • for archiving hardcoded links to external sites
URL inclusions
Use URL inclusions for archiving URLs when a URL matching a specific pattern, or specific patterns, is published. For example, for archiving one or more specific URLs when a specified directory or file is deployed.
Dynamic Component inclusions
Use Dynamic Component inclusions for archiving Dynamic Component Presentations (CMPs) driven by query Stings (they allow you to define replacement parameters in the resulting inclusion URLs).
