Application Data (AppData) in Contenta and Contenta S1000D is a hierarchical collection of configuration settings.
Application Data (AppData) in Contenta and Contenta S1000D is a hierarchical collection of configuration settings used by Contenta tools and third-party tools. Contenta Web provides a graphical user interface for managing AppData, which follows the paradigm used by Windows' Regedit. This consists of a key and associated name-value pairs. The name of the key and its location in the configuration hierarchy adhere to a prescribed pattern and fulfill a prescribed function.
AppData keys and values defined in the Global folder apply to all configuration settings for all users. When a user logs in to Contenta or Contenta S1000D, Global AppData values are inherited on objects on his or her desktop.
In addition to configuration settings in the
Global folder, which affect all users, each user has his or her own desktop, which mimics the configuration settings in the
Global folder; therefore, a user can then override the inherited
Global default values by invoking the
Edit AppData window from his or her desktop, clicking an AppData key, and changing its associated name or value.
Restriction: Only the Contenta administrator can see all users' desktops. Non-administrators see only the Global folder, from which they can only view AppData, and their desktop, from which they can edit AppData. See the SDL Contenta Administration User Guide for detailed procedures on working with AppData.
Note: AppData settings are associated with a specific database. Typically, a Contenta Administrator specifies Global AppData; a ProjMan, Writer, or Reviewer can override certain inherited Global AppData for themself; and a tool integrator can specify custom AppData that is processed by downstream third-party tools. In addition to Contenta AppData keys, Contenta S1000D databases have additional, specialized AppData keys.
