Contenta Web user interface

Exploring the different views of the Contenta Web workspace.

Workspace

The top banner of Contenta Web depicts the logged-in user name and the active database. The Preferences link lets you specify a date and time format, the number of rows that appear in list view per page, and the directories used for checkout and import. The Help link provides access to online documentation, the version of Contenta Web, and access to editor extensions that you need to download. The Log Out link exits your Contenta Web session. The Refresh views icon synchronizes objects in all views.

Figure 1. Contenta Web workspace

The Contenta Web workspace is divided among the following three panes, which provide different views of objects and data, and are seamlessly synchronized based on object selection, regardless of the view you are in.

Tree view pane

Tree view is the left vertical pane that extends from top to bottom. You use the tree view to navigate the object hierarchy and select objects.

The bottom of the tree view contains the following horizontal bars:
  • Repository
Used to traverse the hierarchy to select container and leaf-node objects on which to perform actions. When you expand a container object, both the container and leaf-node objects appear in the tree view. Objects that cannot contain another object can only be viewed in the list view; it depends on the type of object the leaf-node is.
  • Assignments

Used to manage tasks assigned to you (desktop or inbox), and to send user notes.

  • Search

Used to find objects in a selected configuration, and to save or load a search query. Search results can include object names, as well as content and metadata within an object.

  • Project Management

Available only to project managers. Used to access projects created by, or under the management of, the current user.

List view pane

List view is the top horizontal pane located to the right of the object tree. You use the list view to select from both container and leaf-node objects on which to perform actions. The list view appears when the repository view is active in the object tree.

By default, Contenta Web displays 100 objects per page in the list view, each on its own row. You can specify the number of items to be displayed by setting the Rows Per Page preference. In the Contenta Web banner, click Preferences to specify how to display object rows across multiple pages. Setting this preference to a higher value can reduce the scrolling required to view all objects in a large container, but may adversely affect Contenta Web performance.

Additionally, page controls (located to the right of the List View banner) let you navigate among pages of objects. From left to right, these buttons include the following: First, Previous, Next, and Last. The number of the current page and the total number of pages is also shown.

At the top of the list is an icon (I), which you can click to hide the details view to extend the screen area of the list view. You can sort objects in each column, reorder columns, and show or hide them. You can revert from a column sort to the build order by clicking the pyramid.

In the Actions column, each object has a Tools menu (run tool) that provides links to content management functions. The links available in the Tools menu vary depending on the user role and the object selected.

Details view pane

Details view is the bottom horizontal pane located to the right of the object tree. You may have to click the disclosure icon (toggle) in the list view to reveal the details view.

The details view provides greater detail of an object selected in list view, including properties, attributes, history, notes, and the path to the object in the hierarchy.
