Creating a workflow template

This task describes how to create a new workflow template.

Before you begin

You must have SysAdmin or ProjMan permissions to create a workflow template.

About this task

All Projects come with a default Workflow; however, the SysAdmin or ProjMan can create new workflow templates, which can then be selected as an alternative workflow when creating a new Project.

Procedure

  1. In the tree view, click Project Management.
  2. Click the Workflow Templates link.
  3. In the Workflow Templates window, click New.
  4. Enter a name for the workflow template.
  5. Click OK.
The Workflow Template editor appears with Start and End task icons on the canvas, and the default assigned role—ProjMan.
  6. Add other tasks by dragging and dropping the appropriate icons on the canvas.
  7. Define task properties for each task icon:
    1. Double-click a task icon.
    2. In the Task Properties window, specify a Name, Due Date, and Role.
  8. Add team members:
    1. In the Task Properties window, click the Add Team Members link.
    2. From the Roles drop-down menu, click a role.
    3. In the Available Users field, click a user, and then click the right arrow.
  9. Click OK to save your changes, assigning the task.
  10. Dismiss the Task Properties window.
  11. Add a task route:
    1. Click the small gray circle above one task, drag and drop on the circle above the next task.
An arrow representing the task route is shown connecting the tasks. For iterative tasks, create a two-way task route by repeating this step in reverse. An arrow with a head on each end now connects the task, designating this task route as bi-directional.
    2. Continue to make subsequent connections to complete the task routes.
The workflow task icons and task routes appear.
  12. Click Save.
The new Workflow Template is now ready to be selected when creating a new Project.
