Creating an object

This task explains how to create a new Contenta object.

About this task

When creating the Contenta hierarchy, you are bound by the Containment Rules configured for your Contenta database. The containment rules grant and restrict the creation of objects within other objects. When you select a container in which to create an object, only the objects that satisfy the containment rules appear in the creation drop-down list.

Users with permissions to use the Contenta Administration tool, typically the System Administrator, define the containment rules. The rules are configured to maintain a consistent organization of objects in the hierarchy.

Procedure

  1. In tree or list view, in the Actions column, to the left of the container or hybrid/compound object in which you want to create the new object, click Tools.
    The Run Tool window appears.
  2. Click the arrow to the right of the New Object tool.
A drop-down list appears that contains the names of the objects that can be created within the object you selected.
  3. From the drop-down list, click an object to create.
    The object's property sheet appears.
  4. Complete the necessary property sheet fields for the object.
  5. Click OK.
Contenta creates the object within the selected container object.
