Directory Objects

Oracle provides a secure way to establish the server side I/O through the use of Directory Objects.

These are objects in the database with a simple “flat” name (no path separators or other way of subdividing the namespace) that are mapped to an operating system directory path on the Oracle server file system. These operating system directories must be accessible and writable by Oracle. The Data Pump utilities use a predefined Directory Object with read/write access to all schema users.
