FrameBook Tools

The FrameBook tools allow you to export (check-out) FrameMaker documents, modify them, then import (check-in) them back to the Contenta database.

The objects in the Contenta database are locked during the checkout, while being modified. When you check-in the objects, the existing data is updated and the objects are unlocked.

The FrameBook tools assume the FrameMaker Chapter as the MRU (minimum reusable unit) and they manage graphics independently.

The types of files that are assumed to comprise the FrameMaker document include:

  • The FrameMaker book file (.book file)
  • The FrameMaker chapter files (.fm files)
  • Referenced image files (for example, tif, gif, psd, jpeg)

A EntIdMap file is automatically created by the checkout process; it records and keeps track of the files that were checked-out and the relationship to one another (parent-child relationships) and the graphics.

For more information about the EntIdMap file see How the Checkout Tool Works.

Note that chapter (file) refers to any of the .fm file(s) listed in the FrameMaker book file—for example:
