Importing a File

  1. Follow the procedure below to configure the directory and files to be imported.
    To import:Do this:
Data files onlyCreate a directory on your file system and place the data files to be imported into the directory. Alternatively, you may import files that are already on your file system in a hierarchy of directories and subdirectories.

Make certain the data files have file extensions. If they don’t, provide one.

A directory structure and data filesCreate a directory structure on your file system that reflects the desired Contenta hierarchical structure. Place the data files to be imported in the appropriate directories—that is, the directory that corresponds to the hierarchical container in which you want the file imported.

Make certain the data files have file extensions. If they don’t, provide one.

  2. Execute the Dynamic Import application to access the Dynamic Import user interface.
  3. Click the File Import tab in the interface.

In the field next to create, specify the object type of the default container object—the object type you want created when File Import encounters a directory without a valid object type for its extension.

    For example:

  6. In the Extension and PCM Object fields, map the filename extensions to the types of the object you want created when the file is imported. You can also map directory extensions to object types if the directory extension is not a valid object type.
  7. Click the Global Settings button and supply the data for the Global Settings using the information provided.
