Modifying the attributes of an object

This task describes how to add (or delete) attributes associated with a Contenta object.

Before you begin

You must have permission to add attributes to, or remove attributes from, a Contenta object.

About this task

Properties for a selected object in Contenta are fixed; that is, you select a property from a pre-defined list and you specify a value for that property. In contrast, attributes let you specify your own metadata for a selected object.

Properties belong to an object. Attributes can be inherited from a a parent container. Inherited attributes could be overwritten by local attributes. For example, if a parent container has an attribute "font = Arial", a child object can overwrite it by creating a local attribute "font=Times New Roman"

Attributes that you add to a Contenta object:
  • do not have to be the same for objects of the same class
  • can be automatically populated when using the Dynamic Import tool

Procedure

  1. In the tree or list view, click a Contenta object.
  2. In the list view, click Attributes.
  3. Click the To edit attributes, click here or click on the attribute name link. This link is not displayed if you do not have edit permissions.

    The Edit Attributes window appears.

  4. Click New.
  5. Enter a name for the attribute.
  6. Enter a value for the attribute.
  7. Click OK.
The attribute and its value appear in the details view along with other attributes that may have been previously added to the object.
