Object Tools

Object Tools are Tools that are associated with specific Object Types.

An Application Interface Object tool for XML editing may be associated with the CompoundAscii Object and the DataModule Object, but not the CompoundBinary Object. When a user selects an Object in Contenta Explorer, the Tools available for the specific Object type are shown on the menus or toolbar. Tools are only available however, if the user has been granted permission to use them.

The Object Creation Tools enable users to create new Objects, reuse, paste, paste reference, forward, or drag an Object into other Objects. Examples of creation Tools include New Project, New CompoundBinary, and New DataModule. Each time you create a custom Object, a creation Tool for the Objec t is created.

If you create a custom Object named Chapter, a New Chapter creation tool is automatically created by Contenta. Contenta automatically places it on the available Tools List for Objects that you designate as parent Objects for the custom Object—that is the Objects you designate as Can Be Created By. You can then assign the creation tool to a Contenta Tool Box so that the Object can be created by users who are assigned that Tool Box. If the user has permission for the creation tool, the tool is available on the New Object list when the parent Object (the Can Be Created By Object) is selected.

Every Object has a set of System Tools that determine the basic Contenta Explorer functions available for the Object. For example, Rename Object and Read Notes are System Tools. You cannot modify the System Tools that are defined for an Object but you can specify which Tool Boxes contain the System Tools. The table lists the System Tools, the corresponding Contenta menu selections, and the Objects for which each tool is available.
