Overview

An object is inactive when it is removed from view in all container objects in Contenta Explorer.

If it is being used in any part of the Contenta hierarchy, it is not considered inactive and is not a candidate for removal.

Note that when an object is considered inactive and is not visible in the Contenta Explorer, it still exists in the database and uses disk space. If your database has a large number of inactive objects and you do not need historical versions of it, use the deletion tool to reclaim database space.

The components of the deletion tool are in the Contenta_home/bin/reap directory. They are:

  • reap_report—generates a report of the inactive objects in the database. The reap_report output is used as the input for the deletion process.
  • reap_delete—performs the deletion using the output generated by reap_report. The report is automatically generated when you issue the reap_delete command or can be generated, saved, and/or edited, then used as input when you issue the reap_delete command.
