Tools by Object
The "Sample Tool by Object Report" is a partial example of the results of a tools list. It shows the tools assigned to each Contenta object as delivered, and the tool box in which the tool is delivered. To read the report note:
The object is listed first, for example: Object = <BinaryHybrid>
This indicates that the list of tools is for the BinaryHybrid object.
The list of tools and the tool box to which it is assigned follows. The name of the tool and the list of tool boxes are separate by a colon.
For example, the Build_Index tool is available to the ProjMan and SysAdmin for the BinaryHybrid object (when the BinaryHybrid object is selected).
Most tools in the list are recognizable by name.
For instance, the Modify Properties tool xallows you to modify an object’s property sheet, and the Build_Index tool allow you to build a search index.
Some tools are options on the Contenta Explorer menus, some are permissions. For example, you would find the Build_Index tool on the Tools menu however, the Modify Properties tool is a permission allowing the user to change or add data to an object’s property sheet.
All tools that begin with the word New are creation tools.
For instance, the New Group tool allows the user to create a new group object.
Note that the New Group tool is in the ProjMan, SysAdmin and Writer’s tool boxes.
The tool is not available for an object unless it conforms to the containment rules.
The tool is located on the File menu under New Object.
Example
If a CompoundAscii object can be created in a Document object, the New CompoundAscii tool is a Document object tool.
The tool allows the Document object to be parent to a CompoundAscii object therefore it is a Document object tool—when the Document object is selected, the tool is available.
Note the following tools with which you may not be familiar:
| Tool | Description |
|---|---|
| Open | Allows the user to traverse the hierarchy. If the Open tool is not assigned, users cannot open container objects in the hierarchy. An error is displayed and children in the object cannot be accessed or displayed. |
| SQLBATCH | This tool is used by SDL Contenta to extract links from the objects. |
| Dereference | This is the Convert to Object tool on the Edit menu. You can use this tool allows to convert a read-only, reference object to a read-write object. The link to the original object is maintained; the object id remains the same. |
