Verifying the Contenta upgrade

After completing the Contenta Server and database upgrades you must upgrade at least one Contenta Client with Contenta Administration tools to verify that the Contenta application upgrade was successful. You must upgrade a Contenta Client before you can verify the Contenta upgrade.

About this task

See the SDL Installing Contenta Client on Windows publication for information about upgrading the Contenta client.

SDL recommends that you follow the steps below to ensure your installation is working properly.

Procedure

  1. Login as the sysadmin user.
  2. At a command prompt, source the $XYV_PDM_ROOT/bin/pdm.cshrc file.
  3. Change directory to $XYV_PDM_ROOT/bin (cd /pdm/bin).
  4. Execute the Contenta Administration tool, pcmadmin, for your database. Then exit pcmadmin.
  5. On a client that has been upgraded, start Contenta Explorer using your database.
  6. Click Help > About Contenta to verify the release version.
  7. After the upgrade, the system automatically generates a new version of the digui.cfg file. When you execute DI for the first time, it generates the digui.cfg file from the $XYV_PDM_ROOT/encaps/di/config.dist file. Before you execute DI:
    • Make certain you have upgraded your database first. (This requires that you install an Administration Client workstation.)
    • If you customized the digui.cfg file, rename it to save the customizations.
    • If you have not customized digui.cfg then delete it.
    • If both the digui.cfg and config.dist files reside on your system, DI returns the message: A distribution config has been found... whenever you execute the DI tool.

    • Execute DI on the server machine—this generates a new digui.cfg file from the config.dist and saves it in the $XYV_PDM_ROOT/encaps/di directory.
    • If you customized digui.cfg, compare the $XYV_PDM_ROOT/encaps/di/digui.cfg file to the previous version of this file which you renamed above.
    • Make the appropriate changes to new digui.cfg based on the customizations in the previous version of the file.
  8. Exit Dynamic Import.
  9. Exit Contenta Explorer.

If you complete these activities successfully, your Contenta upgrade is configured properly. You will have to configure Search Services. See “Configuring Search” in the SDL Contenta Administrator User Guide for more information on specifying Solr search registry and AppData settings.
