Check Out

Use the Check Out option to export an object’s data for modifications and to place a long-term lock on the object in the database.

About this task

You can maintain a lock on a long-term basis and modify the data outside the database. The lock ensures that no one else can edit the data while you are editing it outside the database.

Procedure

  1. Select one or more data objects you want to check out by clicking the object name(s). Hold the Ctrl key to select more than one object.
  2. Click Check Out.
  3. You are prompted to specify the location to which to save the data. If the file already exists, you are prompted to indicate if you want to overwrite the existing file. Click Yes to overwrite, No to maintain the existing file, or Cancel to cancel the check out operation.
  4. Specify the location and filename and click Save or just click Save to accept the defaults.
    • If checking out multiple objects, you are not prompted for a filename.
    • If not specified, ObjectName_ObejctId is used as the filename.
  5. To modify the file, access it from the location where it was saved.

When done, remove the lock and save the modified object in the database using the Contenta Check In option.

When an object is checked-out it is exported to the file system. The filename extension is derived from the Windows registry or Contenta AppData. The windows registry is searched first for the correct file extension for a given Mime Type:

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\MIME\Database\Content Type\MIMETYPE

If the Mime type is not found in the registry, AppData is searched for the MIMETYPE:

    Tools\Options\Tool Preferences\Global\settings\mimetypeMappings
